Since 2001, the DVD Multi License has been available. The Products covered by this License include DVD Multi Drive (Read-Only) and DVD Multi Drive (Writable). The DVD Multi Specification - Product Requirements Version 1.1 - is found here.
If you wish to use the DVD Multi Logo, DVD Multi License is necessary in addition to DVD Format/Logo License of the Formats and Product Categories that comprise the DVD Multi product. The Fee for DVD Multi License is JPY385,000. The applicable DVD Format/Logo License must be obtained in advance in order to qualify for the DVD Multi License. DVD Multi Drive (Read-Only) is capable of reading DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM media. DVD Multi Drive (Writable) not only reads all these media but can also write on all writable media, DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM. A DVD Multi Licensee will have to undertake and pass appropriate Verifications based upon the DVD Multi Drive Test Specification (Read-Only or Writable).
At this point the DVD Multi License is not extended to DVD Multi players and recorders for consumers. They will be included when Test Specifications are ready.
